Terms of Use
Revision dated 6 October 2026. Applies to the Vault application (Android, desktop) and the vault-msg.tech website.
By installing and using Vault you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. What Vault is
Vault is an application for secure messaging. Encryption happens on the user's device; the transport is email and, at the user's option, a delivery relay that works with encrypted envelopes.
The app is provided free of charge. Certain server-side features (for example, accelerated delivery via the relay) may be provided under usage limits or on a paid basis; the terms of such features are stated separately in the app.
2. Who may use it
- You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, use the app with the consent of a legal representative.
- You are responsible for providing the device, internet access and a working mailbox required for the app to function.
- You are responsible for keeping your device, mailbox password and recovery key safe.
3. Your responsibilities
By using Vault you agree to:
- comply with the laws of the Russian Federation and the applicable laws of your jurisdiction;
- not distribute malware, spam or material prohibited by law;
- not infringe the rights of third parties, including intellectual property and privacy rights;
- not attempt to gain unauthorised access to other people's devices, keys or conversations;
- not use the app for mass mailing, fraud or other unlawful activity.
4. Keys and access to data
Encryption keys are generated and stored only on your device. The Developer has no access to your conversations, keys or contact list.
Consequence: if you uninstall the app without a backup and without your recovery key, restoring access to old conversations is impossible. The Developer cannot reset your password or recover your keys.
Responsibility for keeping a backup and your recovery key rests with you.
5. Message delivery
Vault uses your email and third-party services (mail providers, a push notification service, the delivery relay). The Developer does not control those services and does not guarantee:
- instant delivery — timing depends on the mail provider and the network;
- uninterrupted operation of third-party services;
- that a message will not be blocked or marked as spam by your mail provider.
The email channel is the delivery guarantee: a message is always sent as an email. The relay is an accelerator, not a replacement for email.
6. Limitation of liability
The app is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Developer is not liable for:
- lost profits, indirect or incidental damages;
- data loss due to a lost device, uninstalling the app without a backup, or loss of the recovery key;
- acts or omissions of third parties (mail providers, telecom operators, push notification services);
- consequences of the user's own unlawful use of the app.
Nothing in these Terms limits consumer rights established by mandatory provisions of applicable law.
7. Intellectual property
The Vault source code is distributed openly (see the project repository) under the licence stated in the repository. The Vault name and logo belong to the Developer; use without permission is not allowed.
8. Changes to the app and to these Terms
The Developer may update the app and these Terms. The current revision is published at vault-msg.tech/terms.html. Material changes are reflected in the revision date. Continued use of the app after a new revision is published constitutes acceptance of it.
9. Termination of use
You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. The Developer may restrict access to server-side components (for example, the delivery relay) in case of a breach of these Terms or abuse of the service.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Russian Federation.
